Ed Ubong serves as the Coordinating Director of the Decade of Gas Secretariat, where he coordinates the joint industry and Nigerian government gas acceleration initiative. Before taking up his current position, he was Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Gas, leading the company through a period of rapid growth while safely advancing domestic gas development and supporting Nigeria's industrialisation.
He joined Shell in 2001 as a Systems Engineer and has worked across Digital Systems, Surface Engineering, Strategy, Deal Delivery and Asset Commercialisation. Ed holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the Federal University of Technology Owerri and a master's degree in Engineering from the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom. He also earned an MBA from INSEAD, with study experience in France, at Wharton in the United States, and in Singapore.
Ed is the Immediate Past President of the Nigerian Gas Association, Nigeria's overarching platform for advocating and fostering gas-related development. He is deeply committed to harnessing the potential of domestic gas across the energy value chain. This commitment was recognised when he was honoured as African Gas Advocate of the Year in 2022.
He is also an active member of professional associations including the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He is happily married with children.
