Nigerian Content for Gas Symposium — Nigerian Content: The Engine of Gas Development

Tuesday 29 September 2026 · 12:50 – 1:50pm · Symposium Keynote

Engr. Wole Ogunsanya has over 30 years of experience in the oil industry, having worked for Schlumberger Worldwide as a Field Engineer and in various management positions including Country Operations Manager. He attended the University of Lagos, Nigeria, graduating in Mechanical Engineering with honours in 1987.

He joined Schlumberger immediately and was trained in Livingstone, Scotland, as a Testing and Production Engineer. He later worked in Angola in that capacity, and in 1990 was cross-trained into Formation Evaluation Services.

From early 1990 to mid-1992, Wole worked in Italy as both Formation Evaluation and Production Engineer, primarily for Agip. He successfully executed extensive projects for Agip in the Adriatic Sea, as well as land work in Sicily, North Central (Fizzonasco) and a Geothermal Well Logging Project in Tuscany.

From mid-1992 to mid-1994, Wole worked for Schlumberger-Nigeria, where he became the Lead Engineer for Shell West, Warri. He was frequently called upon to assist other engineers on complex operations for clients such as Chevron, Texaco, NPDC, Elf and Consolidated Oil.

In late 1994, Wole worked in Algeria as Lead Engineer and later Acting Field Services Manager for Agip, Mobil, Anadarko, Cepsa, Sonatrach, LL&E and Repsol. His management training included Leadership and Capacity Building at Georgetown University, Washington, DC (2014); Corporate Financing in Baltimore (2003); Integrated Sales in Lagos (1998); Management at the Management Centre Europe (1996); Initiative for Quality in Tunisia (1996); and Geology in France (1995).

In 1997, Wole became Project Manager for the Exxon-Niger exploration project. The success of this operation led to Schlumberger being selected by Exxon for the next 300-well development project in the region, financed by the World Bank. Wole was then appointed Country Operations Manager for Angola, responsible for operations in Soyo and Luanda.

Following his career at Schlumberger, he founded the Geoplex Group, an indigenous company providing services to the oil and gas industry in West Africa. Starting with electric wireline services in 2002, Geoplex expanded into MWD/LWD, directional drilling, gyro, coiled tubing, slickline, subsea heavy-equipment maintenance, dredging, FPSO, well completions, production services, TCP/DST, well testing and oil and gas logistics.

Under Engr. Wole Ogunsanya’s leadership, Geoplex has created thousands of jobs and continues to create value in the oil and gas industry. The company has become a leader in well services among indigenous companies in West Africa.

Engr. Wole Ogunsanya is Chairman of the Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), the recognised indigenous oil and gas service providers’ professional organisation in Nigeria, and is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.

He is co-founder and owner of Concept Solutions Incorporated and Maryland Children Health Center in Maryland, USA, as well as Chairman of Akermas Energy Limited and Teradyne Nigeria Limited. He is happily married with children.
